2001 Bilkent EEE Graduate Wins the Prestigious Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research
Dr. Ozgur Sahin, who received his B.S. degree from Bilkent Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department in 2001, won a 2016 Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The Young Investigator Award is given annually to researchers “whose exceptionally creative research holds promise across a range of naval-relevant science and technology areas,” and “whose scientific pursuits show outstanding promise for supporting the Department of Defense, while also promoting their professional development.” Dr. Ozgur investigates biological systems that function under physical extremes like short timescales, confinement to nanoscale regions of space, and high mechanical forces. Dr. Sahin is currently an associate professor in Department of Biological Sciences and Department of Physics in Columbia University and is leading the Sahin Laboratory working on Imaging and Modeling Biology at Physical Extremes.
